A few years ago, I was planning out my meal for Easter supper and decided we needed rolls. “Do I want to buy rolls or make them?” And, since I decided I wanted to bake rolls, why not come up with something creative? And, bunny bread was born! The day before Easter, I returned from the grocery store with my bread dough feeling a little ho-hum. My children were all plugged into their various media devices which didn’t feel very festive. This was not what I had hoped for during a rare, lazy Saturday afternoon. As I grumbled to myself, I changed out of my work clothes (making sure to pull on my fuzzy socks which always make me feel better) and came up with a plan. This time, when I came out into the kitchen, I put on some fun music. Soon, I was dancing around the kitchen rolling balls of dough between my fingers. And soon after, wouldn’t you know it? The family began wandering in to see what was going on. When they peered down onto the baking sheet and saw a cute, adorable bunny taking shape, they wanted to form their own bunnies. And, just like that the tradition of bunny bread was born. Not only is it a wonderful Easter tradition, it has become my mantra ever since. When life gives you rolls, make bunny bread instead! Life is what you make it. Add a bit of whimsy and a relaxed attitude and see what magic can happen. Maybe, if you’re patient and a teeny bit creative, it can become your family’s bunny bread.
