My kids came home one afternoon asking if we could make Dragon Eyes. Is this an arts & crafts project? No. What are Dragon Eyes? Apparently, it’s an easy snack my sister made them using bananas, nut butter and chocolate chips. A sweet, nutty treat tames the afternoon hunger monster. With a name like that, this snack is definitely fun. I encourage you or your kids to try making Dragon Eyes.
All you need is one ripe banana, 2 tablespoons peanut or almond butter and a 1/8 cup of chocolate chips.
- Slice the banana into ½ inch round disks and arrange in one flat layer on a platter.
- Spoon a small amount of nut butter onto the center of each slice. OR, spoon peanut butter into a plastic bag, squeeze into the corner, cut off the tip and squeeze the peanut butter out like icing.
- Insert one chocolate chip, upside down, in the center of the peanut butter.
- Serve right away.
Alternatively, set out the ingredients to make and eat, one at a time along with a snack buffet of mixed nuts, dried fruit, chocolate covered cashews and sliced apples and sweet pepper.
Dragon Eyes are a family favorite. Click here for a printable recipe card to add into your snack section in your family cookbook. The recipe is double sided and can be trimmed to 3″ by 8″ and then folded in half. The gate (or fold) will end up at the top of the card. The printable includes both recipes: Dragon Eyes and Afternoon Snack Buffet. Enjoy!
